Welcome

I have put together this website to make available written versions of sermons I have given at Wayfarers Chapel and elsewhere. I may also from time to time use it to post materials in support of the Chapel's ministry to the congregation that gathers here on Sundays, and to the wayfarer in general.

I pray these sermons bring you peace and joy!

Blessings, Rev. Jonathan

MP3's of the Chapel Musicians

In what I have been jokingly calling Wayfarers Chapel Musicians: The Bootleg Album, I have pulled together from our recordings of worship some songs by our musicians. For those of you who wish to relive some of the Sunday morning spirit, these are for you!

Sermons by Rev. David Brown

I am posting audio recordings here of my colleague at Wayfarers Chapel, Rev. David Brown, until we work out a way to post them on The Wayfarers Chapel website.

Swedenborgian Theology Course

Whenever there is sufficient interest, I offer an eight-week course that introduces the basics of Swedenborg's teachings. Many people take this course just for personal enrichment. But the course also doubles as a confirmation class for those who are interested in joining the Swedenborgian Church. The course notes started off years ago as little more than lists of bullet points, but have evolved into essays that can stand on their own. I am posting them here. If interested, email me at jonathanm@wayfarerschapel.org

  1. Who are We?
  2. Who is God?
  3. Who is Jesus Christ?
  4. How Should We Live Our Lives?
  5. What Shall We Be After Death?
  6. What is the Bible?
  7. Who was Emanuel Swedenborg? (No notes)
  8. What is the Swedenborgian Church? (No notes)

About the Sermons

In preaching I usually speak off the cuff. The written sermons offered here are very much after the fact, but I have tried to retain some of the style and feel of public delivery.  Not every sermon makes it to written form.  But I can promise you that there are more on the way.

If you are inspired and/or intrigued by the viewpoint that informs these sermons, you may wish to visit the online edition of Our Daily Bread, for many more sermons by Swedenborgian ministers and lay persons.  If you are curious about Emanuel Swedenborg and the church that has grown up around his vision of a New Christianity for a new age, two good starting points are the web sites of The Swedenborgian Church and The Swedenborg Foundation. You may also wish to check out Swedenborgian Community.org, an online Swedenborgian congregation.
